    Study How Power, Constitutions, and Laws Impact People

    As a political science major at IUP, you’ll study American and world politics as well as other subjects that will prepare you for a career in government.

    This program offers students flexibility in which they choose their major classes. You’ll pick your courses from several areas, including American Studies, Political Theory, Public Policy and Administration, International Studies, and General Political Science.

    You’ll Develop Specialized Skills to Solve Public Problems

    Although the study of politics and power is ancient, the discipline of political science is relatively new. You’ll learn how to approach studies in an objective, rational, and systematic manner. The BA in Political Science help students to analyze complex problems and recognize potential solutions in the public and private sectors.

    • Develop critical thinking and analytical skills, public speaking, and cross-cultural communication.
    • Prepare for professions in federal, state, and local governments and with private civic groups, interest groups, and political groups.
    • Participate in simulations of the Model United Nations with students from other universities.
    • Complement your bachelor’s degree in political science with a major, minor, or concentration in such fields as regional planning, history, economics, sociology, psychology, journalism, Spanish, and geography.
    • Further your education by pursuing post-graduate study in law and public administration, as well as graduate study in political science.
    • Gain real-world experience and expand job opportunities after graduation by completing the Political Science Internship Program.
