Application Requirements

  • The IUP Principal Certification Program requires a master’s degree (or MEQ) as a condition of application. In addition, applicants must be initially certified and have three years of experience in their area of certification to apply for this program.

    Specifically, those seeking a principal certification must be initially certified as a teacher, guidance counselor, librarian, school psychologist, or other instructionally related professional position in the schools.

    How to Apply

    I. Please complete and send the following materials to the Principal Certification Program office:

    1. Completed Principal Certification Program Application
    2. Numerical Rating Scale of Leadership Competencies (This is sent directly to the address above by your principal.)
    3. Copy of Teaching Certificate (A minimum of three years of successful teaching in your certified area and a completed master’s degree are required for consideration for program admission.)
    4. Two-page Response to the Essay Topic at this Link (Effective oral and written communication skills are central to the program.)
    5. Please read the Internship Handbook and send the signed acknowledgment statement on page 31 of the handbook to complete your application to the program.

    Consult the program director if you need clarification regarding any requirement.

    II. Please complete and send the following materials to the School of Graduate Studies and Research:

    1. Completed Application for Admission
    2. Official transcripts from every college or university you have attended (regardless of whether or not you earned a degree). These transcripts must be sealed by the registrar and remain sealed until their arrival at the School of Graduate Studies and Research.
    3. Two letters of written recommendation
    4. Goal statement
    5. $50 nonrefundable, one-time only, application fee, payable to “Indiana University of PA”

    Application Deadlines

    • Summer: Materials must be received by May 1.
    • Fall: Materials must be received by July 1.
    • Spring: Materials must be received by November 1.
