The IUP String Project is now accepting applications for the Fall 2012 semester. Below is information for getting your child enrolled.

The IUP String Project is now accepting applications for the Fall 2012 semester. The IUP String Project is a program that provides string students in the Indiana area with an opportunity to take private lessons after school. The IUP String Project is designed to support and enhance the string programs already in the schools. The teachers are string majors and minors from the IUP Music Department who are studying to be string teachers. As part of this teacher training program, IUP students receive pedagogical training and supervision from the IUP String Area faculty and Master Teacher Swana Chepaitis.

The String Project will start up on Saturday, September 15, with our IUP String Project Open House from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In this meeting, parents and students will receive information about the semester, meet their teachers, and be able to schedule lesson times. Parents and students are encouraged to attend this meeting. For those unable to attend, teachers will contact you to set up a lesson time and provide the information packet at the first lesson.

Each student will receive 11 weekly individual lessons during the semester. Lessons will be held at Cogswell Hall on the IUP campus. Lessons will commence the week of September 17 and will conclude with a recital on the morning of Saturday, December 8, at 10:30 a.m. in Gorell Hall at IUP. Your teacher will work with you to find a time that is mutually agreeable.

Please keep in mind that, in order to support the string programs in the schools, only those string students currently enrolled in their school string programs (where available) are eligible to participate in the IUP String Project.

This semester, the String Project will once again offer ensemble and orchestra classes during the semester free of charge. These fun, interactive sessions provide students with a wonderful opportunity to work with other students at similar age and ability levels in further development of musical and technical skills as well as ensemble skills. All students are encouraged to attend. You will receive specific information and dates the first week of lessons.

Specific information about fees for the Spring semester can be found on the application form. Tuition may be paid in two installments. An initial payment is required by September 10 with the application form. The remainder of tuition is due November 1, 2012. To sign up for lessons in the IUP String Project, fill out the enclosed form and mail with your initial fee to the IUP String Project by September 10.

We look forward to working with you and your child this year. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Dr. Linda Jennings
