Fitness Class Detail Description

Cardio Core

This is a class that is devoted to intervals of maximum effort cardio, toning, and shaping the core muscles. The core muscles are the muscles deep within the abs and back, attaching to the spine or pelvis. Some of these muscles include the transversus abdominis (TVA), the muscles of the pelvic floor, the lats, and the obliques, just to name a few. Mixing intervals of cardio and core is a great way to keep your heart rate up and blast fat away fast! Also, training your core can help you achieve a toned and flat stomach.

Cardio Hip Hop

This class is for all levels and incorporates a combo of fitness and dance moves into a fabulous workout. A fun cardio class that will have you smiling so much you’ll forget it’s even a workout! Come shake it!

HIIT

HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. It is a varying of intensities in one workout. It goes from high intensity (maximum effort) to lower intense circuits. HIIT increases metabolism and works both aerobic and anaerobic pathways in one workout. This workout helps you burn calories both during and after exercise. The body actually burns more calories for up to 24 hours after HIIT training, whereas going for a steady-state jog burns little calories afterward. This class is set up into short groups of intervals followed by rest in between. It is a cardiovascular workout with strength training using your own body weight to help tighten and tone. Some benefits to HIIT are: it is time efficient and burns more calories in the same amount of time; it increases metabolism to burn calories during exercise and at rest; HIIT will help increase your HGH level, which is a hormone that burns fat while keeping muscle and helps muscles to rebuild after a workout. Lastly, it’s a great to help break through training plateaus!

Hip Hop Dance

The hour-long class will consist of a new hip hop routine for every class. The class is for anyone interested, no experience needed. It is a class for anyone who wants to have some fun and incorporate dance into their life. Put on your sneakers and dance your life away!

Insanity

Led by a motivator and “assistant coach,” the instructor will lead, critique, and push the participants to a successful workout. It will be an “insane” workout, but also an opportunity to get in the best shape of your life and have fun while getting fit!

Yoga

This class is designed to build strength and relieve stress! Emphasis will be placed on attention to the breath, alignment, and flexibility. Postures will utilize many muscle groups, especially the core, to help improve balance. This class also incorporates some Pilates movements for body sculpting. This is a challenging class; however, all levels are welcome! This class is BYOM (Bring Your Own Mat).  There are a limited amount of yoga mats available to be loaned out at the Health Hut.  E-mail the Health Hut at health-hut@iup.edu at least a week in advance of the class to check on the availability of a mat.  

Zumba

A Latin-inspired dance fitness class. This is high-energy class that includes a wide variety of music, including Raggaeton, Top 40, Arabian, Hip Hop, Salsa, and more! You will focus on toning your core, thighs, and arms while moving to the beat. From beginners to Zumba experts, you will have a blast shaking it and working up a sweat!
