Arrival Procedures: Transfer Students

Transfer Students

  • Residence hall check-in (if you have contracted to live in an IUP residence hall) takes place between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. the afternoon of Thursday, January 15, 2015, in the building you are assigned to live. Contact the Office of Housing, Residential Living, and Dining for more information.
  • For residential students: After check-in at the residence hall on the January 15, please proceed to the HUB. Go to the I-Card office, have your photo taken, and get your I-Card. (Note: The HUB I-Card office closes at 5:00 p.m. on January 15.)
  • For students who have been assigned to math placement testing, program check-in begins at 7:15 a.m. in the lobby of the Eberly College of Business.
  • All other transfer students (those not assigned to math placement): Program check-in is in the lobby of the Eberly College of Business at 8:15 a.m.
  • If you are not sure that IUP has your final transcript, please bring a copy with you so that we can be sure to advise you as accurately as possible.
  • The transfer Orientation program begins at 8:15 a.m.
  • If taking the math placement exam, students should review the sample tests and bring an approved calculator.
  • Students’ orientation fee will be added to their 2015 spring bill. Since Orientation is mandatory and occurs before the semester has begun, be aware of the following information about meals. Dinner on January 15 is on your own at your own expense.
    • Breakfast on January 16 may be on your own, or you may partake of a very light continental breakfast at program check-in.
    • Orientation provides lunch on January 16.
    • The dining hall is not open on Friday evening, January 16, or Saturday evening, January 17. Therefore, we have arranged to identify which students contracted for university housing will be remaining on campus so that we can provide bagged dinners on those nights. Pick-up details will be provided at Orientation. (Note: If you indicate that you are remaining and wish a bagged dinner on Friday and/or Saturday, you must pick up the dinner at the designated time and location provided to you at Orientation.)
    • Official semester meals begin with brunch on Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Please review just before attending Orientation (as we may have last-minute updates). Print the following:

  • Orientation Map and Directions. Please note, we have several exciting construction projects going on. Read the following carefully. Follow the directions to the campus as indicated. The construction map on this website should be reviewed and printed for your travel. You may also print the parking map, as long as you use it with the construction map. Since Orientation occurs between sessions, for Orientation, you may park in any non-metered, non-pay-by-space, no-reserved space if you are a commuter. If you are an on-campus residential student, see the Parking Office website for information. All students coming to Orientation should review the parking site for any changes to parking.
  • Arrival procedures/travel directions
  • Information about “How to Use Your IUP Network Username and Password” (important, or you will not be able to register)

Enrollment in the Orientation program constitutes your being on campus and fully participating in the program throughout its duration. (Please note that this is true for commuters as well.) Do not plan to leave before the program ends at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16. As well, be aware that, after Orientation, you may continue with on-campus January Orientation activities into the first week of classes, some of which may occur on the weekend. Classes begin on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.

Parents and Family Members

  • We are unable to offer a parent and family orientation program in January.

Parking Information

During Orientation, students may park free of charge at unreserved spaces (space numbers 282–425). These spaces are located on the third and fourth floors of the parking garage.

Other than the unreserved spaces on the third and fourth floors of the IUP parking garage, if you choose to park at an Indiana borough meter, you must put coins in the meter, or you will receive a ticket. You will not be required to pay at the university pay-by-space locations as parking is not enforced for these spaces during university breaks.

Handicapped Parking

Persons with a handicapped license plate or placard and those with a special parking permit are permitted to park in handicapped spaces.

Travel Directions

For the most up-to-date directions to campus, please visit the Map, Directions, and Parking website. The university/Orientation programs do not provide transportation. Each student/family member must make his or her individual travel arrangements, incorporating program times. When making plans, remember that Orientation programs do not conclude until approximately 5:00 p.m. Advance arrangements are required for all transportation services.
