Important “To Do” List
- Make sure that you have signed and returned your employment contract. Make sure that you have made choices about your benefits and retirement program, or ask for more information that will help you choose. Check with the Human Resources Office (724-357-2431) and Faculty Payroll (724-357-2510), both located in the basement level of Sutton Hall, and APSCUF, our faculty union (724-357-3021), located in Keith Hall, room 101. Be sure to take your photo ID and Social Security card to Human Resources as instructed in the appointment letter from your department. You will not be added to IUP’s payroll, nor will paychecks be generated for you, until you make this important visit to HR.
- Check with your department office to see if there is important information and/or documents waiting for you. You should contact your chair or department representative early in the summer for copies of the syllabi of record for each course you are assigned to teach. Each department may have additional welcoming/orientation materials for you.
- Ask your department chair or department secretary or administrative assistant about computer equipment and keys for your use. An e-mail account is created for you when Human Resources processes your appointment forms and you make the visit to HR with your photo ID and Social Security card. Each college has a technology manager who can answer questions about e-mail and other technology problems. The Academic Technology Services’ website offers on-line documentation for the academic community.
- Get your I-Card at the I-Card Office, Hadley Union Building. We recommend you do this before students arrive on campus, as the line will be very long! Your I-Card may need to be activated at the IUP Libraries in order to use some of their services. Consider whether to pay the student activities fee, which entitles you to take advantage of cultural and recreational programs, activities, and facilities offered by the Student Cooperative Association at discounted prices.
- Register your vehicle at the Campus Police Office, located in University Towers, to receive a faculty parking tag allowing you to park in marked faculty parking spaces on campus. You must apply on line through URSA (after logging in, click on the employee tab, on-line parking account). The permit will be mailed to you.
