IUP will honor eight graduates with the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award on March 27.
The IUP Alumni Association established the Distinguished Alumni Awards program to recognize alumni who have achieved distinction in their chosen fields or have demonstrated loyal and active service to their alma mater. The awards are the highest given by the Alumni Association to its alumni.
In addition to the formal dinner on March 27, members of the IUP community are invited to attend a reception with the recipients on March 26 at 6:00 p.m. in Breezedale Alumni Center. The recipients also will be speaking in classrooms throughout the day on March 26.
The 2010 recipients are:
- John Bodnar, a 1983 graduate of IUP’s College of Education and Educational Technology, photojournalist, CNN
- The Honorable Jay Costa, Jr., a 1979 graduate of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, member of the Pennsylvania Senate
- Jeremy Critchfield, a 1993 graduate of the College of Health and Human Services, executive chef and director of food and beverage operations for Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa
- James Krenn, a 1983 graduate of the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, an entertainer and morning radio show host on WDVE Radio, Pittsburgh
- Almar Latour, a 1994 graduate of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, editor-in-chief, Asia, Wall Street Journal
- Juan Carlos Salcedo, a 1977 graduate of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, CEO, Intensus Engineering Company; senior partner, Jireh Resources Company; and president, The Bearingzone FilterMaxx
- Charles Winwood, a 1969 graduate of the College of Education and Educational Technology, retired deputy commissioner for U.S. Customs, Department of the Treasury
- Gerald Zahorchak, a 1988 graduate of the College of Education and Educational Technology, secretary of Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
