Celebrating King’s Legacy

Byron Pitts

IUP recently welcomed CBS correspondent and Emmy-winning broadcast journalist Byron Pitts to Fisher Auditorium for the 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative program.

“If there’s a shortcut to success, it’s through hard work,” Pitts told the audience. “Strength only comes from struggle.” He emphasized the need for faith to get through life’s struggles.

Pitts, known for his work as chief national correspondent for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and as a contributing correspondent for 60 Minutes, spoke of his own struggles through youth and into adulthood.

The IUP Voices of Joy gospel group also performed during the event.
