2010 Clinical Lab Externship (York, PA)

York Hospital Department of Laboratory Services has the opportunity to introduce a limited number of students to the challenging and rewarding field of clinical laboratory science during the summer months. FEB. 5, 2010 DEADLINE! 

The program is competitive; students must apply and be selected to participate.  Applicants MUST be enrolled in a baccalaureate program at a college/university.  Those majoring in Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology) are preferred.  However, students in a laboratory-related field may also apply.

As a summer extern you will:
• Become acquainted with a clinical laboratory in a community hospital setting
• Familiarize yourself with the varied role of the clinical laboratory scientist (medical technologist) and other laboratory professionals
• Develop some laboratory skills prior to your clinical year of training (CLS majors)
 

Areas of opportunity include:

  • Blood Banking Services
  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Clinical Microbiology
  • Hematology/Coagulation/Urinalysis

Externs will be assigned to one of these areas as the regular work division.  Externs will be introduced to the other divisions of the laboratory as part of the extern experience.
