IUP Public Service Career Fair*

U.S. FlagWednesday, March 5, 2014

11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Hadley Union Building Ohio Room, 319 Pratt Drive, Indiana, PA 15705
*Formerly the Criminology and Government Career Fair

The Public Service Career Fair is an opportunity for students to explore different careers that are related to criminology, government, and public service.

The fair is an opportunity for employers to recruit future employees or interns. More than 300 students attend this fair each year. Most are seniors preparing to find a career, while the remaining students are exploring career opportunities for their future. This event is also open to the students of the Criminal Justice Training Center.

This year’s fair will also include some organizations not necessarily associated with public service that were unable to attend last week’s Summer Employment and Internship Fair due to the inclement weather we had.

Students

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to meet representatives from local and national companies and organizations. Employers will be looking for individuals for full-time positions, as well as internships and co-ops. The Public Service Career Fair also provides you with an opportunity to explore employers and career opportunities that you may have never thought about. Participating also provides you with an opportunity for face-to-face contact with recruiters and a chance to polish your networking skills (no matter how brief your contact).

For upperclassmen and alumni, you are encouraged to take the time to prepare a resume and bring multiple copies (30 to 40) with you. Professional dress is encouraged.

For freshmen and sophomores, this event is a great way for you to become aware of internship and full-time opportunities that are available in the different industries (i.e., you don’t necessarily need to be a Criminology major to become a police officer/state trooper). Attending these events early in your college experience can help you make a more informed decision in choosing a career. Please bring a resume and prepared questions for employers. A sample question: How can someone majoring in [insert your major here] best serve your organization? Dress is business casual.

To help you prepare for the Public Service Career Fair, visit the Career Development Center website, then click on Job Search for tips on writing a resume, working a job fair, and interviewing.
