New Muslim Cool: A Conversation with Hamza Perez

Rapper, activist, and interfaith teacher Hamza Perez will discuss his experiences as a Muslim of Puerto Rican descent living in Pittsburgh. Mr. Perez is the subject of the 2009 documentary film New Muslim Cool, which will be shown on campus before his visit. The film takes viewers on Perez’s ride through the streets, projects, and jail cells of urban America, following his spiritual journey to some surprising places—where we can all see ourselves reflected in a world that never stops changing.

New Muslim Cool will be shown to the public on the IUP campus at the following times and locations:
