Inspection Deferral

Eligible employers who receive a full-service consultation survey and a comprehensive safety and health program review may request a deferral from programmed OSHA inspections for up to eighteen months while the employer works with PA/OSHA consultants to improve their safety and health programs. However, inspections prompted by a formal employee complaint, imminent danger, fatality, or catastrophe would not be deferred. At the end of the inspection deferral period, participating employers should be eligible to apply for admission into the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).

Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP)

Employers who are admitted into the SHARP receive an additional twelve-month exemption from programmed OSHA inspections. At the end of their first year of SHARP participation, employers that have their SHARP certificates renewed may receive an additional twenty-four-month exemption from programmed OSHA inspections. However, this exemption would not apply to inspections prompted by a formal employee complaint, imminent danger hazard, fatality, or catastrophe.
