Background:
Dr. Sibyl Camille Cato joined the IUP faculty in Fall 2009. She attended Truman State University for her undergraduate work and University of Arizona for her master’s in School Counseling. She graduated from Ohio State University with her Ph.D. in Counselor Education. Her dissertation focused on counselor education programs at historically Black colleges and universities and CACREP accreditation. Additional research and scholarly interests include remediation plans and feedback for counselors-in-training, gate-keeping, multicultural counseling issues, school counselor supervision, and school counseling in urban settings.
Dr. Cato was a school counselor at Carson Middle School in Tucson, Arizona. She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), and the Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD). She has presented at the ACA national conference, ACES national conference, and the Transforming School Counseling (TSC) national conference. Dr. Cato also serves on the editorial board for the Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) Journal and the Journal of Humanistic Counseling Education and Development (JHCEAD).
Personal:
When not working, Dr. Cato spends her free time preparing for her March 2013 wedding to her fiance, Chris; playing with her 14-year-old Chihuahua mix, Shelby; cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Arizona Wildcats; reading books on her Nook; and playing Scrabble, UNO, darts, and Words-with-Friends.
