Dr. Keri S. Kulik is an assistant professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education.

Education and Certifications:

  • B.S. in Biology from Pennsylvania State University
  • M.S. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh
  • Teacher Certification K-12 Health and Physical Education, Mid-level Science, and Biology from Midwestern State University
  • Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh

Responsibilities and Achievements:

Dr. Keri S. Kulik, assistant professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPED), has been a faculty member at IUP since her appointment in Fall 2008. At IUP, Dr. Kulik is the graduate education coordinator for the M.Ed. program in Health and Physical Education. Prior to her career in higher education, Dr. Kulik worked in the public school systems in Pennsylvania and Texas as a teacher and coach. In addition to her background in education, Dr. Kulik has served as the fitness and wellness director for a medical wellness facility, and worked on two NIH grants aimed at improving the health and fitness of children and adolescents. She also holds several national certifications, including the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Physical Best Instructor Certification.

Dr. Kulik was recently elected as the Pennsylvania state director for NSCA and has served as chair of the Exercise Physiology Research Academy Committee for NASPE. She also sits on the executive board for the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

Dr. Kulik serves on several university and college level committees at IUP, including the Presidential Athletic Advisory Committee, Teacher Education Coordinators Council, and College of Health and Human Services Research and Scholarship Committee. At the department level, Dr. Kulik serves on the HPED Pedagogy Committee, HPED Graduate Curriculum Committee, and the HPED Institutional Review Board Committee.

Research and Scholarship:

Dr. Kulik’s research interests are in the area of improving child and adolescent health and fitness through lifestyle modification and increased physical activity, particularly in the school-based setting. She has presented at numerous national, regional, and state conferences, including PSAHPERD, AAHPERD, EDA, and the Keystone Health Promotion Conference. In addition, Dr. Kulik has worked on NIH grants and has served as a grant reviewer for the Head Start Body Start Project, which was funded by AAHPERD and NASPE.
