The Department of Music offers three degree programs at the undergraduate level. These programs include Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Fine Arts.
- The Bachelor of Science in Education with a Music major provides a certificate to teach in the public schools of Pennsylvania. This program is also acceptable for teaching in private schools and for public schools in other states.
- The Bachelor of Arts in Music has been designed to give the student a general experience in music.
- The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music (equivalent to the Bachelor of Music Degree) is an intensive performance program in which the student selects a major from one of 21 different instruments, voice, or composition. The student in this program prepares for a career as a professional performing musician and/or graduate studies.
The Department of Music, in conjunction with the Department of Theater and Dance, also offers the B.A. Interdisciplinary Fine Arts/Music Theater track. This blends key elements of a traditional musical theater curriculum with an expanded focus on the essential techniques essential to all genres of theater.
Music Minor
Students wishing to elect a minor in Music must successfully pass an audition and complete 15 credit hours of coursework in the Department of Music. This includes two semesters of private lessons on an instrument or voice, participation in large and small ensembles, and a choice of courses in music theory or music history. Unless otherwise indicated, students wishing to audition for a Music minor should follow the audition guidelines, and, for those areas which have different requirements for the B.A, B.S.Ed, or B.F.A. degrees, prepare the requirements for the B.A. or B.S. Ed.
