The purpose of the TOEFL test is to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. The computer-based test consists of four sections.
- Listening measures your ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America.
- Structure measures your ability to recognize appropriatness for standard written English.
- Reading measures your ability to understand short passages similar to those in academic texts.
- Writing measures your ability to write in English on an assigned topic.
The TOEFL test is available only as a computer-based test (CBT). IUP is a CBT center (#7737 for TOEFL). See the registration bulletin or website for registration instructions and test dates.
