The Praxis Series provides tests and other services for states to use as part of the teacher licensing and certification process.

The Praxis I exams previously used by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) have been discontinued. They have been replaced by the Pre-Service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA). To be admitted to Step I of the IUP Three-Step Process, you must take and pass the PAPA.

Additionally, there are new exams for certifications in Early Childhood PreK-4, Special Education PreK-8, and Special Education 7-12. All teacher candidates seeking certification in these areas must take the Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests (PECT)to qualify for student teaching.

Praxis RegistrationAll other Praxis II exams are currently the same. Computer-based Praxis exams are administered year-round at the University Testing Center. To register for a Praxis exam or for information about the exams, please visit the ETS website.

Remember: no cell phones or electronic devices are allowed in the testing center!

View the Praxis Series website for additional information.
