The Praxis Series provides tests and other services for states to use as part of the teacher licensing and certification process.
The Praxis I exams previously used by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) have been discontinued. They have been replaced by the Pre-Service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA). To be admitted to Step I of the IUP Three-Step Process, you must take and pass the PAPA.
Additionally, there are new exams for certifications in Early Childhood PreK-4, Special Education PreK-8, and Special Education 7-12. All teacher candidates seeking certification in these areas must take the Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests (PECT) to qualify for student teaching.
All other Praxis II exams are currently the same. More information can be found on the Praxis Requirements website.
Effective immediately, possession of or use of telephones, cell phones, BlackBerry devices, PDAs, and other electronic or photographic devices is prohibited in the test center. If you bring such devices to the test center, you will be dismissed from the test, your registration and test fees will be forfeited, and your scores will be canceled. Test center staff is not permitted to collect or store devices.
View the Praxis Series website for additional information.
