Move-in 2009 went smoothly, thanks to the help of hundreds of people, including Vyleisha White, center, and Lauren Hillegas, right.

A final count for Fall enrollment will be announced in mid-September, but projections are that the Fall enrollment is at approximately 14,500.

“Washington Post’s” Woodward to Be Speaker in First Commonwealth Lecture Series: Bob Woodward, of the Washington Post, will be the speaker for the second annual First Commonwealth Endowed Lecture on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium.
A Fresh(man) Start: Sam Heastie, nationally known for his expertise in student success, was the keynote speaker for the 2009 Freshman Convocation.
Campus Heritage Grant Project Completed: A campus preservation plan, which addresses the preservation, conservation, and continued use of IUP’s historic landscape and buildings, is now complete.

Highmark Scholarships to Benefit PASSHE Students: More than 150 students in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education majoring in healthcare-related fields will receive a boost from Highmark in paying for their education.

IUP Ambassadors Student Alumni Association Continue Winning Tradition: For the thirteenth year, the IUP Ambassadors, a student group that helps the Alumni Association with events, was honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Affiliated Student Advancement Programs.
IUP Continues National Ranking in “U.S. News and World Report”: Indiana University of Pennsylvania has earned another top honor this year.

IUP Funding PHEAA Grants: Until the final commonwealth budget is determined, IUP will fund Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) state grants for IUP students.
IUP Hosting Memorial Concert in Honor of Daniel Dicicco: The Department of Music will host a benefit memorial concert celebrating the legacy of Dr. Daniel DiCicco, former Music faculty member, on September 27, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium.
IUP Selected For Military Friendly Schools Listing: Indiana University of Pennsylvania is part of the 15 percent of colleges and universities in the nation selected by G.I. Jobs magazine for its 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools.
Low Scores, High Grades: IUP’s Golf Team has been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America’s National Advisory Board as an Outstanding Academic Team for 2008–2009.
Marvin Hamlisch Is 2009–2010 Helwig Distinguished Artist: The Lively Arts has announced that award-winning composer, arranger, and conductor Marvin Hamlisch will perform October 5, 2009, in Fisher Auditorium.
Mortar Board Honor Society’s IUP Chapter Wins National Award: The Sutton Chapter of Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society has received a Gold Torch Award for overall excellence and a Project Excellence Award from the national organization.
State of the University: IUP President Tony Atwater presented the 2009 State of the University Address, “Through the Storm and Bound for Greatness,” on August 27. Atwater addressed the accomplishments of the past year and the opportunities for this coming academic year, and spoke about the budget challenges and offered solutions.
Williams Selected as University Relations VP: G. Patrick Williams will come to IUP from the St. Louis Science Center.
