National Ethnic Minority Scholarships

PROGRAM: ADHA INSTITUTE

ELIGIBILITY: Minority scholarship is available to students enrolled in certificate/associate or bachelor’s degree dental hygiene programs. Must have a 3.0 GPA and show financial need. Deadline: May 1.

PROGRAM: AFNA NEW ACCESS ROUTES TO PROFESSIONAL CAREERS

ELIGIBILITY: Primarily for black high school students who have completed the tenth grade and who are residents of Philadelphia . Program is aimed at placing students at medical schools or laboratories to get research experience and earn money for college.

PROGRAM: AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH

ELIGIBILITY: Scholarships are available through local congregations. The AME church has over 8,000 congregations worldwide.

PROGRAM: AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL ZION CHURCH

ELIGIBILITY: This organization’s 1.5 million members, encompassing 2,500 churches, provide scholarships for its college-bound members.

PROGRAM: ALFRED P. SLOAN FOUNDATION

ELIGIBILITY: Minority students who have completed their junior year in college and who are interested in government careers. Students must attend accredited summer institute. Deadline varies.

PROGRAM: ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY

ELIGIBILITY: Many of the 700 local chapters offer scholarships to qualified high school and college students. Awards are almost exclusively for black women.

ELIGIBILITY: The fraternity provides scholarships to high school students involved in various educational and community projects.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY

ELIGIBILITY: American Chemical Society Minority Scholarships for African American, Hispanic, or Native American Indians who are college freshmen, sophomores, and are juniors planning to major in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering. must be enrolled full-time, with financial need. Deadline: February.

ELIGIBILITY: The Martin Luther King, Jr., Scholarship awarded to minority nominees enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate criminal justice program in a four-year college; must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN DENTAL HYGIENISTS’ ASSOCIATION

ELIGIBILITY: Minority students enrolled in a dental hygiene program. Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year in a dental hygiene curriculum and have a 3.0 GPA. Minimum financial need of $1,500. Deadline: June 1.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN GEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE, MINORITY PARTICIPATION

ELIGIBILITY: Judged on academic achievement, financial need, and potential for success. Must be a U.S. citizen and majoring in one of the following: geology, meteorology, geochemistry, planetary geology, geophysics, oceanography, hydrology, or earth sciences. Deadline: February 1.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN HOTEL FOUNDATION HYATT HOTEL FUND OF MINORITY LODGING MANAGEMENT STUDENTS

ELIGIBILITY: Minority students pursuing an undergraduate degree in hospitality or hotel management on a full-time basis.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be minority students who are undergraduate accounting majors, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and in financial need.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF REAL ESTATE APPRAISERS

ELIGIBILITY: Appraisal Institute Education Trust Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens majoring (graduate or undergraduate) in real state appraisal, land economics, real estate, or allied field; awarded on the basis of academic merit. Deadline: March 15.

AMOUNT: $3,000 for graduate level; $2,000 at the undergraduate level.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY

ELIGIBILITY: For any minority students attending or planning to attend a four-year college full-time. The scholarship is based on academic achievement, recommendations, SAT/ACT or GRE test scores.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN NURSES’ ASSOCIATION BACCALAUREATE COMPLETION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

ELIGIBILITY: This program is designed for, but not limited to, minority R.N.s interested in pursuing full-time study toward a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Recipients must be enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate-nursing program. Deadline January.

ELIGIBILITY: APS Minorities Scholarship Program. Minority high school seniors or college freshmen and sophomores majoring in physics. Applicants must complete application and personal statements as well as provide references, official transcripts, and standardized test scores. Deadline: February 17.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY CORPORATE SPONSORED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MINORITY UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN PHYSICS

ELIGIBILITY: Awards sponsored by corporations and given to outstanding minority students who are majoring or plan to major in physics.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN PLANNING ASSOCIATION

ELIGIBILITY: Planning Fellowship Program. Must be enrolled in a recognized graduate program and nominated by school. Deadline: May 15.

PROGRAM: AMERICAN RESPIRATORY CARE FOUNDATION

ELIGIBLITY: The Jimmy Young Scholarships Respiratory Care. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have visas, be of minority origin, be enrolled in an American Medial Association approved respiratory care program, demonstrate financial need, submit at least two letters of recommendation attesting to worthiness and potential in the field, and submit an original referenced paper on some facet of respiratory care.

PROGRAM: ARMSTRONG MULTICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP

ELIGIBILITY: Minorities who are juniors in high school with a 3.0 GPA and participate in school activities. Only extended to students at colleges where Armstrong recruits. Check your college’s financial aid office.

PROGRAM: ARMY ROTC QUALITY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

ELIGIBILITY: Must be a black U.S. citizen and be physically fit and have good grades. Will be commissioned as an officer after graduation. Deadline: December 1.

PROGRAM: ART MAJORS SCHOLARSHIP

ELIGIBLITY: These awards are granted to high school or college students who show talent in dance, voice, music, art photography, jazz, visual arts, writing, or other creative areas. You must audition or submit a portfolio or tape.

ELIGIBILITY: Minority undergraduate students interested in studying for nursing careers. Financial need a requirement.

PROGRAM: CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST)

ELIGIBLITY: Black Scholarship Fund provides black Americans interested in pursuing a career in the ministry of the Christian Church. Applicants must be members of the Christian Church, demonstrate academic ability, have financial need, be enrolled in an accredited postsecondary institution, and submit a transcript of their academic record.
