IUP Plays Pittsburgh

We thank everyone who attended the November 2, 2009, IUP Plays Pittsburgh event.

Information on our 2009–2010 IUP Plays Pittsburgh Event...

Indiana University of Pennsylvania is proud to bring you our annual celebration, IUP Plays Pittsburgh. Join us on Monday, November 2, 2009, in the majestic surroundings of Heinz Hall as various ensembles from the IUP Music Department perform a grand concert.

We invite you to view a video interview with Derek Cooper, an IUP composition student who will have one of his trombone works receive its world premiere during the Heinz Hall performance.

The Event

The evening begins with a dessert reception at 6:30 p.m. open to all ticket holders. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and includes the IUP Wind Ensemble, Opera Theater, Trombone Choir, Keystone Winds, and pianist Henry Wong Doe. The evening will conclude with the roof-raising sounds of the IUP Marching Band.


You can charge tickets up through Monday, November 2, by calling 412-392-4900, or toll free 1-800-743-8560, or through Heinz Hall’s on-line ticketing. Tickets are $16 for regular admission, $12 for senior citizens, and $10 for students and children. Additional credit card service fees are applied by Heinz Hall, and the ticket price includes the pre-concert dessert reception. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

IUP Alumni Reception

Prior to the dessert reception, IUP Alumni Association invites all alumni for a cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres at Olive or Twist, just a short walk from Heinz Hall. Alumni tickets for both receptions and the concert are $16 regular admission and $12 for senior citizens. Visit the Alumni Office website and choose “Event Registration” to reserve your tickets. A limited number of tickets are available, compliments of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, through our Admissions Office. If you are a high school teacher or student and would like to request tickets, please e-mail the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at

Bus from Indiana

The Department of Music has chartered a community bus. It will leave from IUP’s Cogswell Hall at 5:00 p.m. and return shortly after the concert, leaving Pittsburgh at approximately 11:30 p.m. Patrons will need to reserve a seat on the bus by contacting music professor Matt Baumer at 724-357-5646 or via e-mail at Bus seats cost $10 each and are separate from your concert ticket order, which will need to be purchased through the Heinz Hall box office or when you arrive that evening for the performance. Seating on the bus is limited, so we suggest you contact Dr. Baumer early. Reservations must be made by the end of the day on Friday, October 30.

Henry Wong Doe

Also on the Program

World touring artist and IUP piano assistant professor Henry Wong Doe (right), will be performing a piece by Liszt during the IUP Plays Pittsburgh concert. Two pieces by renowned composer Richard Danielpour will also be performed. One of the pieces is a world premiere, and Dr. Danielpour is expected to be in attendance. Serving as Master of Ceremonies again this year is WDUQ-FM on-air personality Ted Sohier. More information on Wong Doe, Danielpour, and the program can be found in a recently posted news release.
