Theater Production Updates

Fall 2011 Theater-by-the-Grove Production Auditions

Note: Academic credit is available to any IUP student working on any aspect of our major season productions!

All casting and most crew assignments for all three of the major Theater-by-the-Grove (TBTG) productions this Fall are scheduled for the first week of classes. Auditions for three major TBTG productions (described in the Fall 2011 Productions note below) will be held on Monday evening, August 29.

Students will need to prepare a short dramatic or comic monologue (no more than sixty to ninety seconds) for these auditions. Please sign up for an audition appointment on the list posted on the Production Callboard on the Lower Level of Waller Hall.

Auditions for all three productions will be held at the same time—making it easy for students to audition for one, two, or all three productions. Students will fill out an audition form for each production for which they are auditioning.

A sign up sheet for audition appointments is posted on the Callboard in Waller. Please plan on arriving and checking in with the stage manager in the Waller Lobby at least fifteen minutes prior to your audition so that you can fill out the audition forms. If you have a resume of your acting experience, please bring it with you! (If you don’t, you will be asked to list your experience on the audition forms.)

The directors for all three productions have pledged to coordinate their casting process to allow for students to audition for one, two, or all three productions. Students cast will be given the best available role for them among the productions for which they auditioned. Please check this website, as well as the Production Callboard in Waller Hall, for all audition and callback updates. (In addition, upcoming auditions will be listed on the department calendar at the Events link on the main department homepage.)

At a later date and time, there will also be casting and crew options for a small musical in addition to shorter TBTG-sponsored productions as part of the Acorn Project in the Waller Studio Theater. Information about these productions will posted on the Waller Callboard.

Fall 2011 TBTG Production Opportunities

Technical Production Appointments:

In addition, Theater-by-the-Grove is always looking for students who would like to work in supporting areas of theater production (e.g., technical, management, and public relations). If you are interested in backstage and technical studio work, please contact Patrick McCreary, director of Production (gpatrick@iup.edu). Non-majors who wish to register for credit for theater production should contact Toni Apryasz in the department office (tonia@iup.edu) to have restrictions removed for enrollment in THTR 486, Practicum in Production. (In order to be able to add this course, this must be done in the first couple of weeks of each semester.)

Please also plan on coming to the first mandatory company meeting on Wednesday, August 31, at 4:45 p.m. in Waller Mainstage Theater to get your production assignments and supervisor, as well as instructions towards registering for academic credit.
