Common Freshman Reader Essay Contest for Fall 2009

Provost Gerald W. Intemann has announced the Fall Essay Contest on Make the Impossible Possible, by Bill Strickland.

Essay Contest Instructions

Subject

Describe two aspects of Strickland’s philosophy that you can personally relate to or that you find inspiring. How might you apply Strickland’s philosophy to your own thinking?

Format

The essay should be:

  • three to four pages in length
  • typed
  • double-spaced
  • in a Microsoft Word document

Judging

The essay will be judged based on:

  • mechanics (organization, paragraph and sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, clarity)
  • content (thoughtfulness, depth of understanding, and application)
  • adherence to the essay topic

Deadline and Submission

All essays will be submitted to cfr-essay@iup.edu on or before September 15, 2009. The winning essay will be announced in Ocotober 2009.
