Valerie has a B.F.A. in Theatrical Production and Design from Illinois State University. She earned a Master of Fine Arts in Theatrical Design from the University of Texas in Austin. She has designed in Austin, Texas, for companies such as Capitol City Playhouse, Different Stages, and the Austin Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Her designs have also been seen in the Dallas-Fort Worth area at Piano Repertory Theatre, Water Tower Theatre, the Dallas Theater Center, Junior Players Summer Shakespeare, and at Kitchen Dog Theatre, where Valerie was an artistic associate.

Valerie has held teaching positions at the University of Mississippi and at Texas Christian University. Having been nominated in 1999 and 2000, Valerie was the recipient of the Dallas Theatre League’s 2000 Leon Rabin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design. Since joining the TBTG faculty, Valerie has designed costumes for Scapin, Kiss Me Kate!, A Street Car Named Desire, You Can’t Take it With You, Citizen Soldier, Picnic, Henry IV, Part 1, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and A Flea in Her Ear. Additionally, she has designed for Three Stories for Winter, and Lettuce & Lovage for the Northeast Theatre.

Valerie would like to thank her family for their unswerving support of her theatrical endeavors.
