- IUP Joins Yellow Ribbon Program For Veterans Assistance
- IUP has been accepted into the national yellow ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. The program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.
- Cook Inspires Graduates At May Commencement
- A total of 1,603 students received degrees at IUP’s commencement ceremonies on May 3. Robert E. Cook, the benefactor of IUP’s Cook Honors College, served as the commencement keynote speaker.
- IUP Selected as National Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance
- IUP has been selected by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a national Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
- McCombie Recognized as National Teacher Educator of the Year
- Sally McCombie has been recognized as the 2009 Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Educator of the Year by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Convocation to Feature University Professor, Student Congress President
- Gian Pagnucci, University Professor, will serve as master of ceremonies for the 2009 Freshman Convocation, planned for August 30. Samuel Heastie, a member of the educational leadership faculty at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, will present the Convocation keynote address.
- Atwater Creates University Budget Advisory Committee
- In efforts to make budget discussions more participatory and open to the university community, IUP President Tony Atwater has created the University Budget Advisory Committee.
- Celebrating Longtime Service
- IUP President Tony Atwater presided over the dedication of the Donna D. Putt Residence Hall (formerly the Suites on Grant-Upper) on May 15.
- Professors Selected for Annual Academic Excellence and Innovation Awards
- Eight faculty members have been selected for IUP’s Academic Excellence and Innovation Awards.
- Myers to Lead IUP Research Institute
- Phillip Myers has been selected to serve as executive director of the IUP Research Institute. He will begin his position July 1.
- New Associate Provost Named
- After a national search, Innocent (Inno) Onwueme has been selected as associate provost for academic programs and planning. Onwueme will assume his duties before September 1.

- First Individual Champion
- Junior Gavin Smith, of Stirling, Scotland, is the first IUP golfer to win an NCAA individual national title.

- IUP hosted Senator Don White’s fourth annual Student Government Seminar event on May 22 at Eberly Auditorium.
- Outstanding in the Field
- IUP sophomore Nafee Harris from Lancaster claimed the national title in the long jump at the May 21 NCAA outdoor track and field championships at San Angelo, Tex.
