How do I get my alternate PIN? You must contact your adviser for an advising appointment. Your adviser will review your CAPP report and help you create your course schedule for the upcoming semester. He/she will then give you your alternate PIN.
I’ve lost my alternate PIN, where can I get it? Once you have registered for courses, your alternate PIN becomes available on URSA. Otherwise, you need to come to the Journalism Department during our normal hours.
How do I know when to register? You can find this information on URSA in Registration under the Student Services tab.
How are registration times designated? Registration times are first designated by attachment to a special group (e.g., sports teams, etc.), and then by earned credits (i.e., class standing: sophomore, junior, etc.). The only exception is that freshmen during the Spring semester will register before the seniors, juniors, and sophomores.
I’m trying to register for a course and I can’t find it. What does that mean? It could mean that the course is closed (full) or perhaps seats are being held for majors that meet the prerequisites. The course might require instructor’s permission for registration. Contact the instructor to request an override or call the department secretary to check on the status of the course.
I have an override for a course. How do I use it? Bring your override sheet to the Journalism Department secretary in 434 Davis. She will enter the override into Banner. In most cases, the override will be entered the same day that she receives it. You must still register for the class. Before entering URSA, locate the CRN for the course. This number can be found on any of the posted course schedules on the fourth floor of Davis Hall, or on the URSA homepage under "Schedule of Classes Listing." Click on the link and then click on the letter "J" for Journalism courses. You will also be able to see your override in "Registration Status" in URSA in Registration under the Student Services tab. After finding the CRN, go to "Process Registration." Scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see a line of boxes under "Add Course by CRN." In a box, type in the CRN and click on "Submit Changes."
My override didn’t work. Now what do I do? Check to make sure that the CRN is correct. Make sure you are trying to schedule in the correct semester. Check to make sure that you meet the prerequisite(s). Is there a "hold" on your account which would prohibit registration? Is there a time conflict with a course that you've already scheduled? If you’ve checked these and you find that you are still having problems using your override, call the department secretary.
