Living-Learning

A living-learning community is a community of students who live together in a university residential facility or a portion of the building, such as a floor or wing, and participate in academically and intellectually engaging learning activities designed specifically for them.

Research has shown that students in living-learning programs tend to have a smoother transition to college, higher grades, more mentoring from faculty, a stronger sense of civic engagement, and fewer problems with alcohol and other drug use.

IUP’s Residential Revival—a multiyear project started in 2006 to replace or renovate all university-owned student housing—promotes this living-learning philosophy.

These facilities provide designated areas for faculty-student discussions and activities that enhance student interaction and multicultural awareness.
