The IUP Libraries strives to provide excellent support for distance education and off-campus access to library resources. Most of the time, you can simply visit the IUP Libraries website to get electronic access to our catalog and online databases, twenty-four hours a day. In addition, we offer two services—LibAnswers and LibGuides—that provide answers to common questions and guidance on doing library research.
For your convenience, we’ve collected a few common questions about off-campus access below.
How do I access library resources from off-campus?
How do I search for an electronic book (e-book)?
You can use E-Books from EBSCO (formerly NetLibrary) to find E-Books.
How do I search for an article?
You can search for an article in one of our Article Databases.
How do I search for a thesis or dissertation?
You can search for theses and dissertations in ProQuest Digital Dissertations.
How do I request a book, article, thesis, or dissertation that is not available online?
You can request materials through our interlibrary loan services:
- For books, use PALCI (your Patron ID is the sixteen-digit number on your I-Card)
- For articles (or books not available via PALCI), use ILLIAD
How do I ask a librarian for assistance?
If your question is not answered above, and you are unable to find the resource or information you need on the IUP Libraries home page, please contact a librarian and we will be happy to help! You can contact a librarian at the Reference Desk at (724) 357-3006 (toll-free 1-866-836-8815) during the following times (all times are Eastern time):
Monday–Thursday: 7:45 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
Friday: 7:45 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 1:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
You can also e-mail a librarian with your question. Either fill out and submit a question via LibAnswers, or visit the Subject Bibliographer List to see which librarian specializes in your department, program, or discipline, and e-mail them with your question!
