Playwrights
- Submission deadline for the 2009 NW/NV festival is May 15, 2009. Scripts received after that date will be considered for the following year.
- No full length plays will be considered. We are looking for scripts between ten and forty-five minutes (maximum)—and anything in between.
- Send a brief synopsis of your play, with character breakdown, together with a PDF (electronic file) of the complete manuscript. (No hard copies, please!)
- Please include a contact phone number and e-mail address on the play's title page.
- Beyond the title page, please do not write your name anywhere on the play, as this is a blind submission process. Do, however, include the play’s title at the top of every page.
- All genres are welcome.
- Cast size limited to six.
- Providing playwrights with the highest quality cast is a priority. Plays that can be effectively cast within our student pool will be considered favorably.
- Playwrights who are questioning whether or not their play is a good match for NW/NV are strongly encouraged to contact Jason Chimonides, Jason.chimonides@iup.edu, before submitting.
- Please check our departmental website on June 20, 2009, for announcement of the current year's selected playscripts.
- All serious submissions will be read by a committee of readers. Please be advised that the following are not considered serious submissions:
- Screenplays or teleplays submitted as theatrical plays
- Plays with excessive typos and spelling errors
- Plays that are not formatted according to industry standards (an example of standard play formatting is available on the departmental website at Sample Play Formatting—no, this will not require special software. All necessary formatting is achievable with most word processing programs).
