IUP WebCAPE French Placement Exam

If you have been assigned to take the French Exam on your Orientation confirmation letter, you must do so, from home or other location with a web-enable computer, before arriving at Orientation. The instructions are attached. We will ensure that your results are imported into your permanent placement advising reports.

If you were not assigned to take the French exam but have taken French in high school and may want to take French in college, you may take the exam. You must do so, from home or other location with a web-enable computer, before arriving at Orientation. Since you were not assigned to the exam, after concluding, e-mail advising-testing@iup.edu and let us know you took the exam; include your name and ID when e-mailing. We will ensure that your results are imported into your permanent placement advising reports.

Instructions for taking the WebCape French Placement Exam.

  1. Connect to the WebCAPE Foreign Language Placement Exam website.
  2. Next, select “Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP)” from the pull-down menu and click the GO button.
  3. On the next page, WebCAPE will request a password. Type (in all lowercase): placement and press the login button.
  4. Read the short introductory paragraph. Then use the new pull-down menu to select FRENCH and click BEGIN.
  5. Enter your information. Next to “ID Number,” please indicate your IUP Banner ID (@xxxxxxxxx) to help us locate your score.
  6. The next page is the example to show you what the test will look like. Select an answer and click SUBMIT ANSWER.
  7. The real test starts now! When WebCAPE is pretty sure about your level, it will stop asking you questions and provide your score.
  8. After the test, if you want more information about your proficiency in French or if you want to find out more about IUP’s beginning and intermediate multimedia French courses, contact Dr. Dassier (dassier@iup.edu; 405 Sutton Hall).
