Chiarulli and Neusius Present Poster at Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting
Drs. Beverly Chiarulli and Sarah Neusius presented the poster “Burying the Past: Observations on Unintentional Site Reburial at the Johnston Site, Indiana County, Pennsylvania” at the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board in Washington, D.C.
McCarthy Gives Keynote Speech
Dr. John McCarthy of the Department of Counseling presented “Protective and Preventative Factors in Suicide” as the keynote speech to the conference of the Westmoreland County (Pa.) Task Force on Suicide (Greensburg, Pa.) in November 2008.
Hrabovsky Receives Henry Young Award for Outstanding Service to NADE
Paul Hrabovsky will receive the Henry Young Award for Oustanding Individual Contribution to the National Association for Developmental Education at the NADE annual conference on Feburary 26, 2009.
Teacher Education Cooperating Teacher Workshop
Twenty-five local school teachers attended the IUP Teacher Education Cooperating Teacher Workshop on January 8, 2009.  Dr. Laurie Nicholson, Director of Field Placement, conducted this workshop designed to investigate the research and best practices concerning successful student teaching experiences.
Virtual Worlds (Second Life) Conference Presentation
Lloyd Onyett, assistant dean for Technology in the College of Education and Educational Technology, gave a presentation entitled “Teaching in Virtual Worlds (Second Life)” at the 2009 Educause Mid-Atlantic Conference in Philadelphia on January 7, 2009.
McGowan Receives License in Pennsylvania
Dr. Mark McGowan was recently licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology. This license complements his national certification as a school psychologist, a certification he has held for the past five years.

Bieger and Vold Present Paper in China
Dr. George Bieger and Dr. Larry Vold presented a paper at the fifth annual Conference on Higher Education Reform in Shanghai, China. Their paper was entitled “Creating the Opportunity for Internationalization Through Personal Contact: A Model for Bottom-up Reform.”
