Archaeology at Engine House 9 Allegheny Portage National Historic Site

Archaeological investigation at Engine House 9, Allegheny Portage National Historic Site

Archaeological Services offers a wide array of services. The laboratory is equipped with the latest technology to assist in the location and preservation of sites and artifacts. This equipment includes a laser transit, a global positioning system unit, and the geographical information systems program. GIS are a category of technologies for spatial analysis. The lab is used by the university and Archaeological Services as a learning facility for anthropology majors. The students also have the opportunity to gain experience in the field working for Archaeological Services.

It is the goal of the program to work with the client in an effort to maintain the original  project timetables and budgets. We offer consultation, on-site surveys, Phase I and Phase II evaluations, and full Phase III excavations of significant sites. Our services are focused on those sites located in the Upper Ohio Valley
