Locating Government Documents

United States federal and Pennsylvania government documents can be found through a search of the Libraries' online catalog, the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, or Worldcat. Government documents are housed at different locations in Stapleton Library based on types of materials.

  • Printed materials: Federal and Pennsylvania state government publications are shelved in the government document section located to the rear of the first floor arranged by SuDocs number (Superintendent of Documents Classification System) for federal documents and by Pennsylvania documents number (PA documents Classification scheme) for Pennsylvania government documents. Some items can be found through a search of the online catalog. For a listing of government publications not in the online catalog, see the documents librarian in room 110 Stapleton Library.
  • Maps: All maps are filed in map cases located outside the back stacks on the ground floor. They are arranged by countries, regions, and types. For assistance in retrieving maps, and for a full listing, ask the government document librarian in 110 Stapleton Library.
  • CD-ROMs and DVDs: These electronic items are added to the Media collection and can be found through a search of the online catalog.
