Locating Government Documents

Generally, government documents can be found through a search of the PILOT, the library’s on-line catalog, and Marcive WebDocs, or Catalog of U.S. Government Publications. Government documents are housed at different locations in Stapleton Library based on types of materials.

  • Printed materials — Federal and Pennsylvannia state government publications are shelved at government document section located to the rear of the first floor arranged by SuDocs number (Superintendent of Documents Classification System) for federal documents and by Pennsylvania documents number (PA documents Classification scheme) for Pennsylvania government documents.
  • Maps — All maps are filed in map cases located outside the office of Government Documents on the first floor arranged by countries, regions, and types. For assistance of retrieving maps, ask the government document librarian in room 110. A Guide to the Map Collection at Stapleton Library is available on line.
  • Microform materials — Micro materials are filed in microform cabinets in the Serials Department on the ground floor. Serials Department staff can assist you in retrieving micro materials and using micro readers. A Guide to Government Documents in Microforms at Stapleton Library is available on line.
  • CD-ROMs and DVDs — CDs and DVDs are shelved at Media Circulation arranged by call number on the first floor. The assistants there can help you retrieve the CDs or DVDs.

Stapleton Library Hours

Sunday: Open at 11:00 a.m.
Monday–Thursday: Open 24 hours
Friday: Midnight to 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
