Lon Ferguson is a professor and the current chairperson of the Safety Sciences Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Dr. Ferguson has both his B.S. and M.S. in Safety Sciences from IUP and his doctorate is from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Ferguson is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), a certified safety professional, and a certified fire protection specialist. He currently is a BCSP director and a member of the ASSE Educational Standards Committee. In 2002, Dr. Ferguson was awarded the William E. Tarrants Safety Educator of the Year Award by the ASSE. Prior to joining IUP, Dr. Ferguson was an assistant professor in the Occupational Safety and Hygiene Management Program at Millersville University and had twelve years experience as a safety consultant for Liberty Mutual Insurance and the PA/OSHA Consultation Program. Dr. Ferguson frequently teaches undergraduate safety and fire classes as well as graduate safety classes.
