How does the IUP Online Writing Center work?

The IUP Online Writing Center provides live, real-time interaction between you and your IUP Writing Center tutor.

What happens during an online tutoring session?

We use WebEx, a Web conferencing tool, to connect students with tutors. During the session, you will share your screen with the tutor and discuss your paper using your computer’s microphone. Your tutor will provide comments and suggestions, and you can revise your paper on the spot based on this feedback.

How do I get started?

  1. First, read these step-by-step instructions for scheduling an appointment and meeting your tutor.
  2. Once you’ve read the instructions, schedule an appointment on our calendar
  3. After our online coordinator sets up your WebEx session, you’ll receive an e-mail from “Writing Center via Cisco WebEx” with a link to launch your session at your scheduled time. Don’t see this e-mail? Check your JunkMail folder.

Online appointments are conducted no sooner than 24 hours after the time that you schedule. If you need help sooner, stop by the Writing Center in 218 Eicher Hall. No appointment is needed for walk-ins.

Please note: appointment times are reserved specifically for you and your tutor. Please don’t be a no-show! If you cannot keep an appointment, let us know as soon as possible so that another student can have this time with a tutor. To cancel an appointment, e-mail us at w-center@iup.eduor call (724) 357-3029.
