International Friendship Program

The International Friendship Program is a program sponsored by the Office of International Education at IUP. It seeks to promote international understanding by bringing together Indiana-area families or individuals and international students that attend IUP. Every year, hundreds of international students come to Indiana to study, to do research, or to learn English. Yet, many of these students will never step foot inside an American home while they are here. Learning about another culture is an enjoyable way to expand your awareness of the diversity of the world and a practical way of promoting international understanding and peace between nations. Friendship hosts act as contacts and resources to the international students. Hosts have no financial obligation, and, since this is not a home-stay program, students do not live with their friendship host. What happens after a student is assigned to a friendship host will depend on the mutual interest of each student and host. International students and friendship hosts are matched for the length of one academic year, from August to May, or for the remainder of that period if made mid-year.
