The Death Penalty: A Voice of Experience

February 16, 2009

Few are affected by the death penalty like family members of murder victims. The Rev. Walter Everett is all too familiar with murder, loss, and an unguided justice system. Everett’s son, Scott, was murdered in 1986. When faced with the decision to support the execution of his son’s murderer, he chose no. Everett has chosen a road of reconciliation, forgiveness, and restorative justice. While these alternatives are often overshadowed by retribution and revenge, his story brings the power of forgiveness to light.
