Ann Van Kuren holds a B.A. in dance and mathematics from Butler University and a master’s degree in dance performance and choreography from Ohio State University. She creates, commissions, and presents original dance works and programs through her modern dance repertory company, VanDance, Inc. She danced with the Pennsylvania Dance Theatre from 1988 to 2001, serving as the company’s artistic director, and has also danced with New World Dance Theatre in New York City and Fleet Street Contemporary Dance Company of Louisville. The recipient of a Choreographer’s Fellowship Grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, she has created over fifty works of repertory and commissioned and performed in the works of numerous acclaimed choreographers. She has taught modern dance, ballet, and jazz at Ohio State University, modern dance at Stephens College, and composition and modern repertory at Penn State University. Ann has performed in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, Ohio, Kentucky, and South Carolina and in Europe. She is a co-founder of Stories ‘n Motion, a storytelling and modern dance collaboration. She has been serving schools through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Artists-in-Education program since 1988, offering a variety of dance and creative movement programs for all ages.
