What if I Need Help?

We greatly encourage all interested applicants to contact us if they have any questions whatsoever about this process. Assistance is available by contacting Jeff Wacker at (724) 357-4565 or e-mail artspath-info@iup.edu. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We will be available as much as possible; however, your inability to contact us in time to submit your application cannot be used as a reason for missing the postmark deadline.

General Tips

  • Read ALL instructions carefully, including all information on this site and the application itself.
  • Type your application and do not exceed the space provided. Never using less than 10-point type. Answer all questions.
  • Pay close attention to the criteria. In the end, invitations to interview will be made by your effective demonstration of excellence with particular attention placed on the professional quality of your art and work samples and your potential in communicating the artistic process.
  • Artists may apply to only one discipline per application. If you are professionally active in more than one discipline and would like to be considered in other areas, you must submit separate complete applications for each chosen discipline.
  • Be sure to make a photocopy of your application.

Applications Points and Pointers

  • One of the overriding standards of this program is to afford students a quality arts experience over time. Therefore, to qualify for ArtsPath matching funds, artist residencies must be a minimum of 10 days. Although they do not have to be consecutive, they should be in a fairly tight concentration of time. They must also concentrate on the same students throughout those 10 days. Without this, the students do not gain an experience that goes beyond the regular classroom.
  • This program is for ALL disciplines. If you are an itinerant teacher and only meet your students once or twice a week, combine your efforts with other teachers in the school. Work together to develop a partnership that will take the arts beyond the arts classroom and into science, math, social studies, geography.
  • You can apply for more than one residency! As long as your applications are complete and your school supports your efforts with matching funds, there is no limit to how many applications may be submitted by one teacher, one school, one organization, or one district. The only restrictions will be an adherence to the criteria of the program and available state funding.
  • Although performances and exhibits by the visiting artist are very important to the overall experience, ArtsPath concentrates much more on process rather than product. We can offer a myriad of performances and exhibits, but it is in the exploration of the artistic process that heightens a student's appreciation and understanding of the power that is art. This is what makes ArtsPath unique and gives credence to all that we do. And this is what can be gained through in-depth exploration working across all disciplines.
  • This program is open to all community entities in our region who want to utilize the arts to teach. In addition to schools, resident artists can be placed in community centers, senior citizen facilities, businesses, health care institutions, correctional facilities, and the like.
