One of the primary purposes of the IIA is to develop opportunities for students in the area of information assurance (IA). The primary objective is to facilitate faculty/student interactions in research, presentations, publications and workshops. The institute's goal is to coordinate efforts to insure that students in the differing information tracks on campus are afforded opportunities to be involved in collaborative research in IA.

A second objective of the institute is to assist students in job placement and career planning. Since IUP is a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance, students will have a number of unique opportunities for employment and internships. Such efforts will be coordinated from the institute.
