Frequently asked questions about the December university commencement ceremony

How do we get to Kovalchick Complex?

Directions to Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex can be found on the Kovalchick Complex website.

What about parking?

Since parking near the auditorium and the Kovalchick Complex is limited, you and your guests may want to park elsewhere on campus. Two shuttle buses will be running to transport graduates, family, and guests. One bus originates from the Parking Garage and the other from the R&P Lot. These buses will pick up and drop off at all intersections on campus or for anyone who flags a bus along the route.

Both buses will reverse routes back to their original destinations.

Do I need an admission ticket to the university commencement ceremonies?

 No tickets are required.

Is there a listing of local hotels, and do any of them provide an IUP discount?

Lodging and dining information can be found on the Kovalchick Complex website. Please contact the businesses listed to find out if they provide an IUP discount.

Are there any special arrangements for guests who are physically impaired?

Kovalchick Complex has accommodations for handicapped parking and special needs seating. There is ADA-compliant seating for guests with special needs, along with elevator access. The ushers will direct your guest to the concourse level where this seating is available.

How will I know if my son/daughter will be receiving a special award?

Honors medallions will be available for pickup at the Salute to Graduates for first baccalaureate December graduates who attained a 3.25 or higher cumulative grade point average at IUP before the Fall semester began. After that event, medallions may be picked up at the Registrar’s Office in Clark Hall during regular business hours.  A student must present his or her I-Card to receive a medallion.

Is there space on campus for a private reception after commencement?

Because of so many events already taking place on campus, we are unable to offer space for private functions.

When and where do the graduates report on commencement day?

The ceremony for graduate students will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Fisher Auditorium. Students receiveing a master’s degree should report to the IUP Performing Arts Center no later than 9:00 a.m. Students receiving the doctoral or MFA degree will be sent a specific communication from the School of Graduate Studies and Research that includes information about where they are to report.

The ceremony for undergraduate students will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Undergraduate students are asked to report to Kovalchick Complex no later than 12:00 p.m.
