The purpose of the National Student Speech, Language, and Hearing Association is:

  • to encourage professional interest among college and university students in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior
  • to provide continuity to the dissemination of professional information, and
  • to provide a vehicle for student representation in matters of professional concern.

Any student attending IUP, graduate or undergraduate, who is not yet eligible for membership in the American Speech Language Hearing Association who is interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior, is eligible for membership in this organization. Any regularly enrolled student, who, because of deep professional interest in and an outstanding contribution to the local chapter of NSSLHA shall be eligible to be enrolled an Honor Member. Any person, except a regularly enrolled student, who, because of deep professional interest in and an outstanding contribution to the local chapter of NSSLHA shall be eligible to be elected an Honorary Member.
