Spirit of the Oak

The mission of the Spirit of the Oak is to welcome, respect, and provide a place for discussion of all life-affirming neo-pagan teachings, traditions, and practices; to learn from all; and to share our learning within the group. We will provide a safe place for those who desire to meet and interact with others of the same. We also intend to educate the community at large concerning neo-pagan beliefs and practices.

Statement of Beliefs:

  • We respect people’s right to freedom of religious practice and belief.
  • We are dedicated to learning and practicing rites (private and public) that attune ourselves to cycles of life in the world. This group seeks to support and share knowledge with those who practice the different forms of neo-paganism and those who are sincerely interested in neo-paganism.
  • We understand neo-paganism as to be stated by Isaac Bonewits: “Nature religions that are based upon [pre-Christian, European traditions] concentrating upon an attempt to retain the humanist, ecological, and creative aspects of these old belief systems while discarding their occasional brutal or repressive aspects.”
  • We do not workshop any entity known as “Satan” or “the Devil” as defined by Christian tradition. We do not seek power through the suffering of any sentient being.
