In addition to providing advanced professional training in psychology, the Center for Applied Psychology (CAP) offers psychological services to the community. The CAP houses three clinics, each staffed by IUP faculty members who are licensed psychologists and by doctoral students.
The Stress and Habits Disorders Clinic provides individual and group interventions for persons experiencing a broad range of psychological difficulties resulting from general stressors as well as sequelae of medical diagnoses, including the following:
- Grief
- Difficulties resulting from trauma
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Relationship and family problems
- Partner relational problems
The Family and Child Treatment Clinic offers family therapy and individual and group therapy for children. Problems treated in the clinic include the following:
- Parent-child relational problems
- Disruptive behavior problems
- Depression, anxiety, or grieving in children
- Developmental concerns and evaluations
- A desire to develop more effective parenting skills
The Adult Assessment Clinic provides a variety of psychological services to clients of other community agencies, to industry, and to individuals. Services offered include the following:
- Evaluations of adult learning disabilities
- Personality assessments
- Occupational-vocational rehabilitation evaluations
- Neuropsychological evaluations (e.g., head injuries, memory disorders)
- Child custody evaluations (court referrals only)
- Diagnostic evaluations
The CAP also sponsors workshops, training seminars, and other continuing-education programs for mental health professionals. These offerings are regularly updated on the website.
The CAP offers consultation to agencies and conducts research projects such as needs assessments, psychotherapy process and outcome studies, program evaluations, and the development of new services for communities and schools.
