Captain Aaron D. Felter is from Pittsburgh, Pa. He commissioned as a distinguished military graduate of Army ROTC program in May 2001 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, receiving a degree in Criminology.
Following his commission, CPT Felter served as the university’s Gold Bar Recruiter for three months, then later attended the Air Defense Officer Basic Course at FT. Bliss, Tex. His first assignment upon completion of OBC was with 1st Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery, 1st Armored Division in Wackernheim, Germany. He served as a MANPADS platoon leader for 3/A/1-4 ADA. During his platoon leader time, CPT Felter graduated from the NBC and LRSO Defense Course, the USAF Joint Combat Operations Course, and Close Air Support Course. CPT Felter deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. During his deployment he became the XO of A/1-4 ADA.
Upon leaving Germany, CPT Felter attended the Infantry Captain’s Career Course at FT. Benning, Ga. Upon completion of the Captain Career Course he was assigned to G3, 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Bragg, N.C. CPT Felter served as the division ammunition officer prior to becoming the deputy of Training for the division. He would deploy in support of Task Force All American Assist during Hurricane Katrina relief in 2005. He completed the United States Army Advanced Airborne School (Jumpmaster) in 2006.
CPT Felter commanded Echo Battery, 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment. He commanded the Army’s only Airborne Air Defense Artillery Battery (Stinger/Avenger) from August 2006 to August 2008.
CPT Felter's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Valorous Unit Award. He has earned the Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, as well as Chilean and Ukrainian Jump Wings.
CPT Felter is married to the former Bethany Nichols (IUP ’02) from West Mifflin, Pa. They have a son, Jacob.
