MSG David K. Grey, Jr.MSG David K. Grey, Jr., is a native of Duquesne, Pennsylvania. He entered the U.S. Army on July 2, 1986. He completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he was awarded the Military Occupation Specialty as an armor crewman.

MSG Grey’s assignments include Freidberg, Germany; Fort Hood, Texas; Camp Casey, Korea; and Fort Lewis, Washington. MSG Grey has three combat tours: during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm with 2nd battalion 8th Cavalry, and Operation Iraqi Freedom II and Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08 with 1st battalion 8th Cavalry with the First Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

MSG Grey has attended numerous military schools, including the Warrior Leaders course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers course, Total Army Instructor Training Course, M1A2 Tank Commanders Certification Course, Unit Conduct of Fire Trainer Instructor/Operator Course, NBC Officers Course, Combat Lifesavers Course, Observer Controller Academy, and the Field Sanitation Course. MSG Grey holds an Associates of Applied Science degree from Central Texas College and is pursuing his bachelor’s degree.

MSG Grey has served in multiple leadership positions, including tank driver and gunner, B Co, 2nd battalion 67th Armor, Friedberg, Germany; tank gunner, A Co, 2nd battalion 8th Cavalry, Fort Hood, Texas; tank commander, B Co, 2nd battalion 72nd Armor, Camp Casey, Korea; tank commander and platoon sergeant, A Co, 3rd battalion 66th Armor, Fort Hood Texas; platoon and company observer/controller/trainer, 2nd battalion(AR) 358th regiment(TS), Fort Lewis, Washington; platoon sergeant, C Co, 1st battalion 8th Cavalry, Fort Hood, Texas; and First Sergeant, D Co, 1st battalion 8th Cavalry, Fort Hood Texas. He is currently the senior Military Science instructor for Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

MSG Grey’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with four oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), Good Conduct Medal (seventh award), National Defense Service Medal (with bronze star), Korean Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Campaign Medal (with two bronze stars), Iraq Campaign Medal, War on Terrorism Expedition Medal, War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (w/number 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (w/number 4), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Combat Action Badge, Drivers Badge, and the Order of Saint George.

MSG Grey is married to the former Karen A. Kalkbrenner from Port View, Pennsylvania, and they have three children, David III, Jessica, and Shane.
