IT Associate I

Summary

This position is the first level in the internship for all IT career paths. Incumbents in this position will work as part of a project team to provide software and/or hardware support while developing the skills to move into one of five career paths: Technical Architecture, Software Engineering, Program Management, Software Quality Assurance, or Business Solutions.  The incumbent has general knowledge and experience in information technology and supports the overall IT functions of the company.

General Job Duties

  • Under guidance, participate as part of project team to provide technical support, resolve issues, and plan for assigned IT functions.
  • Continuously expand knowledge of all five career paths and apply it to software development, system architecture program management, software quality assurance, and understanding and developing business solutions.
  • Continuously strive to improve, support, and identify opportunities to increase efficiency and expand services.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Specific Job Duties

  • The primary responsibility of this position is to focus on the design, development, and implementation of internal software applications to support the business as a member of the Information Delivery (ID) team.
  • Contribute as a member of the ID team and under the supervision of senior developers to find sound technical and functional solutions to a given problem domain.
    • Work closely with portfolio project managers to elicit and understand business requirements.
    • Participate in full life-cycle development of business applications.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
    • Continuously look for opportunities to expand their knowledge in the technical domain and building rapport with internal customers.
    • Exhibit strong technical analysis skills.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Associates degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Zero to one or more years of general experience in one or more of the IT functions.
  • General understanding of commonly used programming languages, network administration, operating systems, and data storage technologies.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a project team, foster team cooperation.
  • Stays current with rapidly changing technology and applies it to business needs.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
  • Working towards professional certification as warranted.
  • Knowledge in some or all the following technologies, frameworks, or platforms is highly desired: .NET framework (1.1, 2.0, 3.0), C#, ASP.NET, Windows Forms, Web Services, Ajax, SharePoint, SQL Server 2000/2005, HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Visual Studio.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in OOP, software design patterns, and best practices.
  • Working experience with WSS and SharePoint is a big plus.
  • Experience in three-tiered applications and/or SOA design and development is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of .NET 3.0/3.5 (WPF, WWF, WCF) is a big plus.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems is a big plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills—must be able to work effectively as part of a project/program team and foster team cooperation.
  • Stays current with rapidly changing technology and applies it to business needs.

Organizational Relationships

  • At times, reports directly to senior management.
  • Communicates with departmental and business unit personnel throughout the organization to facilitate planning and implementation of technology services.
  • Interacts with other employees at all levels in the conduct of day-to-day activities.

External Relationships

  • May be required to interact with external customers.
  • Develops relationships with professional organizations, peer groups, and industry trade groups; participates in industry forums and user groups.
