Registration

Dr. Lou Sherburne is the registration officer for the Psychology department. Her office is located in 105 Uhler. Her e-mail address is sherburl@iup.edu. You can also contact Dr. Zanich at mlzanich@iup.edu if you have any registration questions.

Registration for the upcoming semesters will be announced well in advance of the time for reqistration. Pay close attention to these announcements! You should contact your academic advisor to prepare for scheduling.

First-year psychology majors should make an appointment with the Psychology Department Academic Development Center located in Room G-8 Uhler.

For current sophomores, juniors, and seniors: If you don’t know who your advisor is, you can check the list available on the department bulletin board just outside 109 Uhler Hall. Advisors will post sign-up sheets outside their offices so that students can sign up for advising times. Time appointment notices and alternate pin numbers will be available only from your advisor.

Please note: a number of department courses require special admission procedures, so read the registration announcement carefully for instructions. Some special notes are included here:

  • PSYC 290: You must have completed or be currently enrolled in MATH 217 to enroll in this course. If you have some special problem concerning PSYC 290 registration, you should make arrangements to contact Dr. Sherburne. If you enroll in PSYC 290 and do not pass MATH 217, you will be disenrolled from PSYC 290 until such time as you have passed MATH 217.
  • Admission to PSYC 291: If you are currently in PSYC 290, you will receive a special request form for admission to PSYC 291. If you are not currently enrolled in PSYC 290 but you plan to take PSYC 291, you must fill out a closed section request form. Department policies give priority to students currently enrolled in PSYC 290. Your name will be placed on a waiting list and you will be notified if seats become available.
  • Admission to PSYC 480: Restricted to members of the Honors Program; you must fill out a closed section request form.
  • Admission to PSYC 483: Honors Thesis—Restricted to members of the Honors Program. Note: You must also fill out a complete Request for Independent Study form for each of the two semesters of your independent study project.
  • Admission to PSYC 493 (Practicum): The names of students admitted to Practicum will be submitted by Dr. Newell after your meeting later in the semester. You do not need to fill out a request for a closed section permit; you can add the course to your schedule after your meeting with Dr. Newell.

One last note: The department has hired new faculty members for the upcoming semester. It is possible that additional courses will be added to the schedule as this process continues. Please check the course schedule offerings frequently.
