The Empowering Relationships Mentoring Program provides entering first-year students with the opportunity to interact with a successful upper-division student who will be a mentor and friend and will provide encouragement, advice, and support during the first academic year.
The mentors are successful students who are currently enrolled and available during the academic year (September through May) to participate in the program.
This mentoring relationship will result in an empowered and successful first-year college experience.
The Empowering Relationships Mentoring Program Will
- Develop student leaders and provide opportunities for entering students to meet with successful students to share ideas and reactions to being away from home for the first time
- Demonstrate to the entire university community the value and benefits of empowering and protecting the university’s first-year students
- Provide the university’s entering students with firsthand input from successful upper-division students; this is designed to enhance the entering student’s college experience, improve the campus climate, and stimulate the learning environment for all university students
- Demonstrate and promote the fact that the university respects, embraces, and intends to provide meaningful support for its students
