How I became interested in Psychology
I started out as a theater major, and I minored in psychology to learn more about what makes people do what they do. Through my first psychology classes, I developed an interest in therapeutic interventions, particularly for children, in order to help people as early as possible.
Areas of Interest
Parenting, including how parents think about their children’s behavior and factors that impact parental decision making. I am particularly interested in the impact of parent mental health issues on parenting and children’s outcomes. I am also interested in evidence-based assessment and intervention with children across the age range.
Current Research and Professional Projects
I recently submitted a grant with colleagues at the University of Maryland to develop an intervention for socially anxious preschool children and their parents, and I am collaborating on an intervention study for depressed mothers of children with ADHD. As I am new to IUP, I will spend this next year getting started on new projects with parents and children.
