Punxsutawney Orientation

You’ve been accepted to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) — Congratulations!

The fall semester begins Monday, August 25, 2014. The LAST Orientation for entering Punxsutawney campus freshmen for fall is Saturday, August 23, 2014, on the Punxsutawney campus. It is through Orientation only that you take your placement tests, are advised, and register for your fall classes. In addition, you begin to learn the procedures, benefits, and resources available to you as an IUP student!

Program Check-In

Program check-in takes place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014, on the first floor of the Academic Building outside room 122 on the IUP Punxsutawney Campus. (Remember to eat breakfast prior to arrival.)

Enrolling for Orientation

To register, you need to click the Freshmen: How to Register for Orientation button. Remember that enrollment in the program constitutes your being on campus and fully participating in the program throughout its duration. Do not plan to leave before the program ends. After the program, you will proceed with Punxsutawney campus Welcome Weekend activities.

Freshmen Residential Student Residence Hall Check-In

Information about move-in for Punxsutawney campus students attending late Orientation will be provided under separate cover by the Punxsutawney campus.

Placement Test Information and FAQ

Your assignment to any exams, other than those taken by everyone (English, math, reading), is on your confirmation mailing. You can find information or any related sample exams (if there are any) on the placement test information page, or visit the FAQ page. (Note: there is no Parent Orientation for late Orientation.)

You will need to bring a calculator labeled with your name if you wish to use it for the math exams. Only approved calculators are allowed. There are both regular and scientific calculators available on the exam itself. (Note: you should not rely on prior experience for the math exam. Be sure to review the same questions through the links on our website.)

If you are assigned to the French exam, you will take the French exam from home before attending orientation. Instructions on how to do this are on our website. Be sure to take the IUP French exam as indicated, in advance (i.e., prior to the day before orientation), so that we receive the results in time for your advising.

Disability Support and Testing Accommodations

IUP is committed to serving students with disabilities. Access and accommodations provided during Orientation are separate from those provided when you are a student. Thus, if you have a disability, in addition to indicating needs on the Orientation enrollment form, complete and return the Declaration of Disability form. (Registration for Orientation and DSS are separate procedures.)

We look forward to receiving your Orientation enrollment form and sending you further information. In the meantime, please review the Orientation website for further information about the Orientation program. If you have any questions along the way, e-mail orientation-testing@iup.edu and we will get in touch.
